Spanish midfielder Alex Baena, 23, has joined Atletico Madrid from Villarreal, the LaLiga team said on Wednesday. According to Spanish media, the five-year contract is for 50 million euros ($58.92 million).

Following a season on loan at Girona, where he assisted them in earning promotion, Baena made his senior debut in 2020 after rising through the ranks at Villarreal from the junior academy. He has been a mainstay in the Villarreal squad for the past three seasons.
