Colombian Luis Suarez

Portuguese football club Sporting Lisbon has signed Colombian forward Luis Suarez from Spain’s Almeria. The 27-year-old player has agreed to a long-term contract with Sporting, lasting until 2030.

Contract Terms

The clubs did not specify the financial terms, but Spanish media have reported that Sporting paid Almeria around 25 million euros (about 29.3 million dollars) to get the transfer. The new contract signed by Suarez has a massive release clause of 80 million euros (approximately 92.7 million dollars).

Sporting’s Statement

Sporting announced the signing, highlighting Suarez’s impressive performance last season: “The 27-year-old striker joins us… where he scored 31 goals and provided eight assists in the 2024-25 season.”

Suarez expressed his excitement about the move, stating, “I have reached the highest point of my career. I want to show that I have what it takes to be here.”

Suarez’s Career Path

Suarez began his professional career in Colombia’s second division back in 2015. He moved to Spain in 2016, playing for Real Gimnastic de Tarragona, Valladolid, Granada and Real Zaragoza before a stint in France with Olympique de Marseille. He joined Almeria most recently before securing this transfer to Sporting Lisbon.
