The champions of Real Madrid won their second La Liga game of the season on Sunday thanks to a late double from forward Kylian Mbappe, which included a penalty. The game ended 2-0 at home against Real Betis.

Kylian Mbappe Impact on Real Madrid La Liga Campaign

The captain of France, Kylian Mbappe, arrived in Marid from Paris St. Germain in June. He scored in his first La Liga match, a 2-0 victory against Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup, but has not scored in his team’s other three La Liga games.

The Frenchman ended his short drought on Sunday to assist his team in claiming their second win in four league games, which relieves pressure ahead of the two-week international break. They are currently in second place with eight points, four behind Barcelona.

Real Madrid Struggles and Slow Start

With attacking midfielder Jude Bellingham still sidelined due to a leg injury after a poor 1-1 draw against lowly Las Palmas on Thursday, the hosts got off to another slow start on Sunday, controlling possession but failing to generate clear opportunities.

The so-called “New Galacticos,” Rodrygo, Mbappe, and Vinicius Jr., misplaced too many passes and had trouble connecting.

Betis Defensive Prowess and Missed Opportunities

Abde Ezzalzouli, a forward, missed two easy opportunities in the opening fifteen minutes that could have stunned Real Madrid. Betis was well-organized in defense and frequently dangerous during counterattacks.

The same issues from earlier games suggested Madrid would have to put more effort than anticipated into integrating Mbappe into their system. With Rodrygo locked onto the right channel, Mbappe and Vinicius struggled to find their mojo as they exchanged positions early on.

Mbappe and Vinicius: The Second Half Revival

As the game went on, Mbappe appeared more like his previous self as he made a few runs from the middle and the left wing. At the beginning of the match, he missed a few easy chances from crosses by Vinicius and was unable to outpace opponents in pace.

After the break, the home team appeared more vibrant as Mbappe and Vinicius began to gel. They continued to advance in the second half, with Vinicius striking the crossbar in the fiftyth minute.

Real Madrid Victory Secured by Mbappe’s Late Double

In the 67th minute, Mbappe’s close-range strike broke the deadlock, following a fantastic back-heel by midfielder Federico Valverde, who displayed excellent vision to evade the offside trap.

Goalkeeper Rui Silva fouled Vinicius, setting up Mbappe for a penalty kick that sealed the victory in the 75th minute.
