On Thursday, Manchester United rallied to defeat Bodo/Glimt 3-2 in the Europa League, marking their inaugural win under new coach Ruben Amorim.

Early Drama and Rapid Goals

After keeper Nikita Haikin mishandled a back pass, United took the lead in the first minute. Alejandro Garnacho then tapped in from close range after the ball broke free due to pressure from Rasmus Hojlund.

Bodo/Glimt Swift Response

The Norwegians netted two goals through swift counterattacks, with Hakon Evjen delivering a stunning shot into the top corner in the 19th minute, and Philip Zinckernagel overcoming Tyrell Malacia to score past goalkeeper Andre Onana, shocking the crowd at Old Trafford.

Man United Equaliser Before the Break

Just before the break, United equalised when Noussair Mazraoui’s pass into the area found Hojlund, who controlled the ball with his first touch before shooting between two defenders into the far corner.

Amorim’s team took the lead five minutes into the second half when Hojlund directed Manuel Ugarte’s low pass across the box into the goal right after Mason Mount struck the crossbar.

Key Saves Secure Victory

Man United was unable to score again, but they relied on two key saves from Onana to clinch the three points, moving them up to 12th place in the standings with 9 points, just ahead of Bodo/Glimt, who have 7 points.

Amorim Reflects on the Performance

“Naturally, I observe what everyone observes – both the positive and the challenging moments,” Amorim expressed to TNT Sports.

There was a bit of uncertainty at the end while trying to secure the result, but the guys performed admirably. They pushed themselves, applied pressure, and aimed to execute the strategies we’d practised over the past three days, and we achieved victory.

Gratitude to Fans and Future Aspirations

Amorim’s inaugural match as manager ended in a 1-1 tie in the Premier League with Ipswich Town on Sunday.

“Half of the stadium doesn’t know me. I came from Portugal and I haven’t done anything for this club. Still, the way they make me feel at home is special,” he said.

I’ll continue doing this until my career is over.

Amorim characterized the game as an exhilarating ride.

Amorim said it was ‘an actual ride,’ admitting that they came out strongly but lost focus when conceding two goals from the counters. He also thanked the players for their efforts in trying to execute their planned system of play.

We’ve won the ball and had problems in the past giving the ball away too much – it’s just about keeping the ball. I think we deserved the win and they are really trying.
