Spain forward Lamine Yamal will miss Tuesday’s Nations League Group A4 match against Serbia to avoid any risk of injury after suffering a muscle strain, as announced by the Spain national team on Sunday.

Injury Occurs After Denmark Match

The 17-year-old came off the bench in the 93rd minute in Spain 1-0 victory against Denmark in a Nations League Group A4 game on Saturday. The Danish team challenged Yamal numerous times, and observers saw him walking with difficulty back to the team bus after the match.

Medical Examination and Team Decision

Following an MRI scan in Madrid on Sunday, the Barcelona player was removed from the Spain training camp and will be heading back to his club.

“The medical tests did not show any structural damage, and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) medical team has confirmed that it is a muscular strain,” stated the Spain national team on Sunday.

The team prioritizes the player’s health, and to prevent any chance of injury before the upcoming match against Serbia, they have decided to remove him from the squad.

Coach De la Fuente’s Comments

Spain’s coach, Luis De la Fuente, mentioned in a press conference following the Denmark match that “It’s important for the referee to ensure the safety of these skilled players, but Lamine needs to adapt to the physicality. I wish it could be all sunshine and rainbows, but that’s just the nature of this sport.”

“Lamine showed outstanding determination and created numerous opportunities for us from the right side. He possesses a unique talent. I had a teammate who would often say, ‘Do you want kisses from the opponents?’ Teams will utilize any available tactics within the rules.”

Yamal’s Recent Form

Yamal played a crucial role in Spain’s victory at the 2024 European Championship. This season, he has netted five goals and provided five assists in 11 matches for Barcelona across all competitions.

Rodrigo Riquelme from Atletico Madrid has been selected to substitute for Yamal in the match against Serbia in Cordoba on Tuesday.
