On Sunday, Barcelona defeated 5-1 Villarreal thanks to two goals each from Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha.

Barcelona’s midweek Champions League loss to Monaco marked their first loss of the year, but Hansi Flick’s team responded magnificently in La Liga.

Villarreal 1-5 Barcelona: Raphinha and Lewandowski

Barcelona Impressive La Liga Start Under Hansi Flick

So far this season, they have triumphed in their first six league games under Flick.

Lewandowski scored twice within 35 minutes before Villarreal quickly pulled one back through Ayoze Perez.

Raphinha scored two goals late in the second half to seal the victory for Barcelona, but Pablo Torre made it 3-1 after the break.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen Injured Before Halftime

Just before halftime, Barcelona did, however, lose goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who had fallen and was clearly in pain as he was taken off the pitch on a stretcher.

The Blaugrana are still at the top of the rankings, holding a four-point advantage over Real Madrid, the reigning champions, in second place.

Barcelona Longest La Liga Winning Streak Since 2017

Barca has now won 10 straight La Liga games between the beginning of this season and the end of the previous one. Since 2017, when Lionel Messi was still in charge of the team, that is the longest winning streak they have had.

Only Bayern Munich (29 goals) have scored more goals this season than Barca (23 goals) in all competitions.

Villarreal had opportunities of their own and scored 2.11 xG, but the Blaugrana’s five goals on Sunday came from 4.08 xG, so Flick will want to see his squad tighten up at the back.
