On August 20, Manchester City’s England midfielder Phil Foden received the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player of the Year award after leading his team to a record fourth consecutive Premier League title.
Impressive Performance Last Season
Last season, the 24-year-old scored 27 goals in 53 appearances across all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s City, which also won the Uefa Super Cup and Club World Cup and finished second in the FA Cup.
Phil Foden Reaction to the Award
“Winning this award is something very special, and I am extremely proud and grateful for it,” Foden stated.
Recognition from your peers is everything, and I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me. I’d also like to thank Pep, the City coaches, and every one of my teammates for helping me improve every day.
Foden beat City’s Erling Haaland, who won the prize in 2023, and Rodri, as well as Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard, and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.
Team Recognition and Additional Awards
I’d also like to congratulate my teammates Kyle Walker, Rodrigo, and Erling for earning a spot on the PFA Team of the Year; it’s fantastic that people have recognized their exceptional talent in this way, he added.
Other Notable Winners
The PFA named Chelsea winger Cole Palmer, 22, Young Player of the Year after he scored 22 goals in 34 Premier League games during his first season with the London club since leaving City.
The PFA voted Khadija Shaw of City as Women’s Player of the Year, while Grace Clinton of Tottenham Hotspur won Young Player of the Year after excelling on loan from Manchester United.
